A Love Lost

both so in love.

both so in need.

both so scared to admit

they needed something different,

something not found in the other.

so they both stayed together

as their stomachs slowly turned with resentment

expecting the other to be what they weren’t–

until their love, like wine,

once so sweet and so strong,

turned to poison in their glass.

and when they took a sip,

eyes glazed over with obsession,

they spat it to the ground

repulsed by the flavor.

but both, like addicts

so drunk on each other

refused to put the glass down

forcing down what was supposed to be enjoyed

till they forgot how it was supposed to taste.
